EMERGENT 2022 FLAMES in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Adyar, Mangaluru, India will be organizing EMERGENT 2022, a students’ symposium on the 15th of July 2022. Students have presented about 74 Original Research and Review papers on the latest trends in Mechanical engineering and their allied fields. The abstracts of the accepted papers will be part of the Proceedings of the EMERGENT 2022 symposium. Selected papers will be published (subject to authors' approval) in Peer-reviewed reviewed journals and books of SCOPUS recognized publishers (Nova Science, Scrivener-Wiley, IGI Global, and Bentham Science)

Mech. Faculty Defends Ph.D. Thesis Prof. Shankara Murthy H M, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering successfully defended his Ph.D thesis titled “Experimental investigations on heat transfer enhancement in a double pipe heat exchanger using metallic inserts and nanofluid" on 1 st November 2021. His research work was guided by Dr. R K Hegde, Professor & Head, Department of Automobile Engineering, Srinivas Institute of Technology, Valachil, Mangaluru. The other members of his Doctoral Committee included Dr. Kumar G N and Dr. Ramesh M R, Professor’s, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NITK, Surathkal. The research work produced three research articles in reputed journals like 1) Experimental Heat Transfer, Taylor & Francis, 2021, Impact Factor: 4.058 (Scopus & web of science), 2) Heat and Mass Transfer, Springer, 2020, Impact Factor: 2.223 (Scopus) 3) Heat Transfer Equipment's, Begel House Publications, 2020, Impact Factor: 1.97 (Scopus).

HANDS ON WORKSHOP ON ROBOTIC WELDING On 15th June, 2022, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering in association with KCTU, IEI, ISTE, FLAMES, IIC organized a Hands on Workshop on Robotic Welding at COE Robotic Welding for enhancing the skills of Students, Staff and local MSME’s. This Workshop started with the inauguration ceremony where Dr. Manjappa S, Director R&D stressed on the importance of gaining future skills and also motivated the students, staff to make the best use of this opportunity. Dr. Rajesha S, Principal spoke about how best we can utilize this opportunity by telling his own experience, he also emphasized on using this COE to upgrade the knowledge. Inauguration of “MATTARME” at Mechanical Engineering Department “MATTARME”- a fest under FLAMES for the students of Mechanical Engineering was inaugurated by Dr. Rajesha S., Principal by lightening the lamp on 16.06.2022, 4.30pm at Mantap near Mechanical Block. On his inaugural speech he addressed about the way of celebration of Mechanical Engineering students from past decades with the unique and variety of concepts. He stressed about the importance of branch on career growth of each individual students. Mechanical Engineering students Win 1 st and 2 nd place in “Incredia 2022” held at NMAM Institute of Technology Mohammed Zain, Nestor Noronha and Abhinav Thodthillaya, students from 6 th Semester and Salvin Pinto, G Vijeth, Vineeth Pais from 8 th Semester Mechanical Engineering have participated in “Engine Overhaul" an event held at Incredia 2022 a National Level Techno- Cultural Fest of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte and won 1st and 2nd Places respectively for which they received Certificates and a Cash Prize. The event consisted of three rounds. Round 1: Involves a written test that will test your knowledge of automobiles. Round 2: Identifying the parts of the engine and explaining their function. Final Round: Involves fixing an already overhauled engine. Teams will have to assemble the engine with the smallest number of errors in the least amount of time.

The resource person was Mr. S Manimohan Trinath, Sr. Faculty member at ACE academy. Objective of the webinar was to give students of 2nd and 3rd year Mechanical Engineering the insights on what next after Graduation. During the webinar, Mr. S Manimohan Trinath, emphasized on the different opportunities for the Mechanical Engineering students in IT sectors especially in Artificial Intelligence; different range of salary packages for Mechanical Engineering Fresh graduates and importance of GATE exam to get into PSU's.
